Best Movies For Best Friends
If you and your best friend are looking for a movie to watch here is a list of the best movies for best friends. These are all movies that are meant to be shared together with best friends. Together you will laugh, cry and in the end your friendship will become stronger after watching these classic best friend movies.
These are my favorite best friend movies--but they are in no particular order.
Driving Miss Daisy
Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play, this movie tells the affectionate story of the friendship between an older Jewish woman in the 1960's and her African American driver over a 25 year span. The kinship that develops between these two strong willed personalities is at first improbably but over time each realizes they have more and more in common. The woman played by Jessica Tandy teaches her driver, Morgan Freemen, how to read. And in return, he teaches her about growing old. The move is heartwarming and touching.
Beaches
Beaches is considered by many to be the top best friend movie ever. It is the tale of enduring friendship between two women played by Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. Not only do we fall in love with the characters but also the bond and relationship that develops between them as friends. We see them start off as adolescents and as life unfolds they go through good times and bad, but in the end they are always there for each other. It presents a very realistic portrayal of love and complexities of female friendships. Better have lots of tissues ready for this one.
My Girl
This is a funny and moving movie that has humor, courage and wit. It is the poignant and tender story about the friendship that develops between a boy and a girl, a first love and an untimely tragic death. The movie features lots of big name stars including: Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis and the boy and girl, McCauley Culkin and Anna Chlumsky. When the Temptations classic song "My Girl" plays if that doesn't move you nothing will!
Thelma and Louise
This is the dramatic story and ultimate misadventure of two women who decide to throw all caution to the wind and take a spontaneous road trip. In the movie these two are more pals then best friends. Both girls are hard working but have had a series of broken relationships through their lives. Played by Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, these two friends encounter a few unfortunate turns during their vacation that seem to parallel the events of their lives. It is not exactly a feel-good movie, but it does look at the challenges women face through their lives with an unexpected, thought provoking ending.
The Notebook
This is a wonderful and deeply moving story of lifelong love. It tells the story of a young man and women whose romance is brought to a halt when they are separated by war. The two are reunited later in life and are given a second chance. The great thing about this movie is that it is told looking back from the perspective of the now older man reading to a female friend. The movie features Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Gena Rowlands and James Garner whose love with each stands the test of time.
These are my personal favorites as best friend movies. They are perfect to be shared with a best friend. There are others once you have watched these half a dozen times. Don't miss The Bucket List, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Forest Gump, Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes and Grumpy Old Men.

Where's Ryan Gosling hiding?
Where’s Ryan Gosling? The Oscar-nominated “Half Nelson” star, was a surprise entry on the Oscar slate. But he’s been pretty much MIA from the campaign circuit. He wasn't even at the prestigious and essential campaign stop - the Oscar Nominees Luncheon - this week. Even Peter O'Toole showed up for that. Doesn't Ryan want to win?According to Bonnie Abaunza of Amnesty International, Ryan is in Uganda scouting locations for “The Lord’s Resistance Army,” a film about child soldiers in East Africa. Gosling’s producing the film, co-writing the script, will direct and star in it. With him in Uganda are child soldier expert Jimmy Briggs, author of “Innocents Lost,” and John Prendergast, D.C-based senior advisor to the International Crisis Group. He’s the guy who took Angelina Jolie on her first trip to the eastern Congo in 2003 and helped George Clooney recently appear at the United Nations to seek help for Darfur’s thousands of dead and millions of displaced civil war victims. While there, they visited some hospitals and aid centers funded by Nic Cage’s $2.5 million contribution to help rehabilitate child soldiers. Yesterday morning, Bonnie got a frantic call from Ryan, Jimmy and John asking for her help.
At one hospital, the trio met a 3-year-old girl whose village had been attacked and destroyed by the child soldiers in the Lord’s Resistance Army. “She had been thrown into a fire to burn to death. But she managed to wriggle out. The child soldiers grabbed her, wrapped her in a rug and threw her back in. But she managed to crawl out again, stay hidden in the brush and survive. She was just 18 months old. She’s still alive but is horribly burned. The carpet is embedded in her head. "She has a cerebral infection and is in terrible pain with every movement and every breath,” says Abaunza. She cannot grow because her skin is so scarred. The brave little girl needs more help than the Doctors Without Borders can provide and her only hope now is to get to the US and be given long-term treatment at a Burn Center." Ryan, Jimmie and John are determined to get her out of Uganda and flown to the US for specialized care and Bonnie is trying to arrange airfare and medical care as fast as she can. So if you wonder where the Oscar-nommed actor has been during the fabulous frenzied awards season, that’s what he's been up to. Freaking inspiring, isn't it?
