I just love the jazzy music of the 30's and 40's. When I hear the unique vocals of artist such as Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Rosemary Clooney I cant help but dream of glamour, champagne and most importantly love. However "I'll Be Seeing You" by Billie Holiday moves me in a different sense. The song contains beautiful yet heartbreaking lyrics. I believe it was originally written for a Broadway musical during the war. Quoted from Wikipedia, "the musical theme has emotional power, and was much loved during World War II." I can't imagine how deeply it touched wives, mothers, daughters and the thousands who lost loved ones in that war. Emotional power indeed.
